The beloved Italian card game Scopa has been around for centuries. Translating to ‘broom’ in English, the name itself refers to the action of sweeping cards from the table, a central gameplay element of the game. While a popular form of entertainment, Scopa also holds special cultural significance in Italy, often played during family gatherings, social events and festivals, serving as a means of bonding and camaraderie among players.

Darmstadt’s Asphaltgold are using Scopa as the source of inspiration behind their first ever PUMA collaboration, with the German outfit appropriately scooping up the Palermo for a Mediterranean remix. The collaboration is replete with intricate details paying homage to the card game. Co-branded labels on the medial sides reveal hidden messages when flipped up (akin to revealing cards in a game), while the outsole features a picture of the sun, a classic Scopa Illustration.

Made with raw nylon, light blue nubuck and grey suede, the Palermo is imbued with a sunny aesthetic emblematic of the model’s Sicilian namesake, while red terry fabric on the inner lining allude to the game’s traditional illustrations – in which red features prominently.

The Asphaltgold x PUMA Palermo ‘Scopa’ is scheduled to arrive exclusively at asphaltgold on May 4.
